City leaders in Vestavia Hills working to raise sales tax

VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. (WIAT) — While Vestavia Hills residents are deciding on a property tax increase, city leaders there are also working to boost the sales tax.

The big goal is to get people to shop and buy in Vestavia Hills, whether they live there or not.

The city manager says they have a lot of things they’d like to build to attract more people, but they need as way to fund those projects.

They have big plans for patchwork farms off Cahaba River Road, which is vacant land at the moment.

The city already has some sketches and is working with developers to build a shopping village complete with retail, businesses and apartments.

The city is teaming up with the Chamber of Commerce to help businesses attract more customers.

Sometime in the next six months, Vestavia Hills city leaders will break ground and start building a brand new multi-million dollar city hall on Highway 31.
