2 unoccupied homes catch fire behind Tuggle Elementary School

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service responded Tuesday to a large fire ablaze behind Tuggle Elementary School at 3rd Place and 12 Terrace North.

Chief Terry Beckham says two houses caught fire, both of which were unoccupied. One of the houses is a total loss and the other has substantial damage.

Beckham says the fire department has to put out a few hot spots in the neighborhood as well, but the fire is under control.

The home that caught fire is next door to a house that caught fire on Feb. 23.

It’s unclear at this time what caused the fire.
