PARRISH, Ala. (WIAT) — Rumors are swirling in Parrish that the Walker County school district might force students there to consolidate with another school.
That possibility has left some parents and residents concerned, because they say they’re in the dark.
As Parrish students make their way to class, they can only speculate what their future holds.
Lifelong resident Joe Stephenson says rumors have been going around about an imminent closing.
“They’re closing it down because they’re not offering the curriculum they’re supposed to be offering,” Penny Tilley speculated.
Joseph Goswick says the school and its athletics, especially Friday night football, are the lifeblood of this town.
Not only are people in the community speaking out, more than 200 people have signed an online petition as of 6 p.m. Thursday night in support of keeping Parrish High School open.
However, with no response from the district, rumors are all people have to hold on to for now.
CBS42 tried to speak with Superintendent Jason Adkins about these rumors, but our calls were not returned.
The issue is not on next week’s school board agenda.
