University of Alabama suing Georgia company over houndstooth

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) — The houndstooth pattern is popular in Alabama, and it’s usually associated with the University of Alabama.

It’s featured on Alabama Crimson Tide apparel all across the nation.

Now, the University of Alabama is suing a Georgia company called Houndstooth Mafia over the use of the pattern.

A judge assigned to the case confirms she has recused herself from the case. Judge Sharon Blackburn tells CBS42 she filed an order Monday removing herself from the case.

Judge David Proctor is now assigned the suit.

Blackburn has not given any official reason for her decision, but she is a graduate of the University of Alabama.
