Deputies stun suspect attempting to elude capture

GRAYSON VALLEY, Ala. (WIAT) — Deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office say they caught Devon Simmons, 27, of Huffman, trying to steal copper from a vacant home in Grayson Valley. When he tried to escape, deputies say they had no choice but to taze him.

They say when Simmons realized he’d been caught, he ran back into a home, out the back door, and jumped off the back deck. Investigators were there waiting for him when he landed; but, they say he continued to fight, so they pulled out a tazer.

Simmons is now in the Jefferson County Jail. He has been charged with Burglary 3rd degree, Possession of Burglary Tools, Criminal Mischief 1st degree, and Attempting to Elude. Simmons is under bonds totaling $27,000.
