BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — An Alabama family barely escaped the violence in Ukraine with their four newly adopted children.
Lisa and David Bundy are now back in the United States. The pair were in Eastern Europe doing the paperwork to bring home their four adopted children when the conflict broke out.
At one point, the family of six found themselves in the middle of protests and staying near burned out buildings.
“You could hear everything – the bombs, the Molotov cocktails, the gunfire,” said Lisa Bundy. “We went out one time and apparently there were snipers, and we didn’t know it until we got back to the apartment.”
The family had to split up in Europe and take separate flights home three weeks apart because of paperwork delays.
They reunited over the weekend in Atlanta and are looking forward to starting their new life together in Alabama.
