BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Dozens at the Birmingham Public Library got a history lesson without opening a book Wednesday afternoon.
Instead, they listened to 83-year-old Max Herzel, a Holocaust survivor who escaped from Belgium when he was 10 years old.
Herzel has 13 relatives who died in concentration camps. He shared memories about his past and things written in a diary he kept during his time in th.
The history lesson is part of the Birmingham Holocaust Education Center and Birmingham Public Library’s lecture series aimed at highlighting the Holocaust and survivors.
This is the series’ 10th year.
