Author speaks out about suicide prevention

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — She survived an attempt to end her life and is on a mission to save others from crossing that line.  Sue Wiygul Martin has written a book telling her personal story.

The book titled “Out of the Whirlpool: A memoir of remorse and reconciliation” gives great detail of Sue’s journey from then to now.

“Suicide prevention and talking about putting life back together after a traumatic event that completely upends your world of expectations is becoming my passion,” said Martin.

Wiygul Martin has started speaking publicly about her experiences.  In February, she spoke at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Downtown Birmingham partnering with the VA’s Suicide Prevention Coordinator.

She encourages anyone who has attempted suicide to tell someone and reach out for help.

If you or someone you know needs help call the Suicide Prevention Hotline at 800-273-TALK.
