BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Researchers are working on a “chocolate pill” in hopes that it could have positives effects on the heart, as well as, other health benefits. Their goal is to take chocolate, minus the fat and sugar, and pack all the nutrients into one pill.
Researchers at hospitals in Boston and Seattle will give chocolate pills packed with cocoa bean compounds, called “flavanols” to 18,000 people for 4 years. They believe flavanols found in dark chocolate can lower the risk of heart attacks and strokes, because they have been found to improve blood pressure, cholesterol, insulin regulation and other cardiovascular issues.
