Retired Marine sergeant and family receive new home

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Retired Marine Sergeant Matt Bein and his family had quite the exciting day Thursday.

He and his family were selected as the recipients of a mortgage-free home; Matt and his family have already paid a different kind of price.

“I’ve been through some pretty hard times, and now I’m just happy I can be home with my family,” Bein said.

Wells Fargo and the Military Warriors Foundation are providing the family with the home.

Bein’s children approve of the new home, especially the swing set outside.

For Matt and his wife, Heather, the home represents the promise of a peaceful life for their family.

Now, after battling difficult times, things are looking up for the Bein family.

“I was struck by an IED on foot patrol, and I went through a lot of depression and anger about not being able to do my job again in the Marine Corps,” Bein said.

The family doesn’t know what the future will hold, but in their comfort of their new home, they can’t wait to find out.
