TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) – McFarland Mall was once a big draw for shoppers in Tuscaloosa. Now, it’s giving way to a new shopping experience. McFarland is being demolished, and a new mall will be built in its place.
Local developer Stan Pate is calling the project “Encore.” He hopes to bring a major national retailer to anchor the new facility.
“Kind of a family destination pull, it sounds like it will be kind of that lifestyle open center to where it will have restaurants, cafes, and a diverse mix of tenants to really get people to come and be able to enjoy themselves. – Brendan Moore, Tuscaloosa Director of Economic Development
The financial terms between Pate and the city are still being finalized. Pate does hope to have the Encore project finished and the new mall ready to open by late 2015.
