Seventeen year cold case may finally be solved

Oxford cold case

OXFORD, Ala. (WIAT) — A seventeen year mystery is beginning to clear up in Oxford. It began in January 1997 when Floyd Hurst disappeared from his home. On Friday, police say they have the man responsible. John Stovall 2nd is charged with capital murder. Because the investigation is ongoing, police aren’t able to release much information, but, they do say, they’re still gathering evidence.

“We will release more as the investigation furthers along. We have investigators in several different counties and communities as we speak, interviewing individuals. We wanted to get this information out there. The family has been notified and they are aware of the situation.” -Chief Bill Partridge, Oxford Police

Stovall is being held without bond in the Cleburne County jail.
