BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – Tuesday March 25th, marks the nine-year-anniversary of an infant, unwanted by her parents, becoming the daughter of an entire community.
On March 25th, 2005, workers at the America’s Thrift Store on Huffman Road found the body of a newborn inside a donation box. Employees named the girl, Angel Grace. They all chipped in to give her the dignity in death she never had in life. Workers, along with the community, bought Angel Grace a coffin, flowers for her funeral, and a place to be laid to rest.
Her parents were never found, but investigators do know the donation box came from St. Clair County.
Every year, on March 25th, workers at America’s Thrift Stores pause to remember Angel Grace. They also place fresh flowers on her gravesite.
