BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Nothing kicks off the Spring Break and summer season, quite like a barbecue; but it’s important to exercise caution when firing up the grill.
Northport Fire and Rescue has a few tips on keeping the fire where it’s supposed to be, on the grill.
First, position the grill away from buildings, deck railings, and even low-hanging branches. Keep the kids and pets away from the grill, and set up a 3-foot safe zone around it.
Keep your grill clean, because left over grease and fat can ignite.
Finally, never grill indoors. Not only is that a fire risk, but you could expose yourself to carbon monoxide gas as well.
