CHELSEA, Ala. (WIAT) — The man accused of holding five students at gunpoint at Chelsea Middle School will head to court on May 5.
Ryan Sims is being held without bond in the Shelby County Jail.
He is charged with five counts of kidnapping and one count of making a terrorist threat.
The charges stem from an incident at Chelsea Middle School in February of 2013.
Investigators say Sims held five young girls hostage in a locker room.
A teacher saw what was happening and called for help. A sheriff’s deputy talked Sims into releasing the girls and surrendering.
When deputies searched his home, they found 49 rounds of live .22 caliber cartridges under his bed, and that violated a term of his bond release in June.
He pleaded not guilty and not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect.
