Birmingham considering $350 million project to repair I-20/59

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — When you’re driving down the interstate you expect the roads to be safe and secure; but over the past 8 months 3 large,  gaping holes have suddenly appeared on bridges along I-20/59 in the downtown Birmingham area. The city council is considering a $350 million project to rebuild the interchanges.

Most of the interstates around the downtown area are over 40 years old, and ALDOT says the bridges have more than reached their life span. If the plan is approved, construction could be finished by 2017.
