Man arrested for smuggling drugs into jail with Bibles

SHELBY COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — Shelby County deputies arrested a man for using his Bible to carry drugs into the county jail.

Deputies say Larry Morris shared Bibles with inmates when he visited in November and December of 2013.

However, they didn’t know prescription strips were inside the Bibles.

The strips, called suboxone, are used to help maintain a treatment of an opiod dependency.

Morris bonded out on a $20,00 bond the same day he was arrested.

His court hearing is slated to take place April 9.
