VESTVAVIA HILLS, Ala. (WIAT) — Residents of Vestavia Hills won’t have to travel far, and hopefully won’t have to wait that long to renew their tags soon.

On April 1, 2014, Vestavia Hills will become the first city in Jefferson County to offer tag renewal services.

The service is for Vestavia residents only.

Residents will need a tag renewal card, which is sent in the mail, or last year’s tag receipt, valid identification and proof of insurance.

“Being that we’ve not done this ever before, we have no idea how many people are going to utilize this service,” said Bo Seagrist. “We’re hoping that people do, that our residents do take advantage of it.”

It starts with one city, but several others have expressed interest.

Vestavia Hills is the pilot city for the program, which was established through legislation as a solution to help reduce the long lines many experienced at the Jefferson County Courthouse.
