COLUMBIANA, Ala. (WIAT) — A new public transportation option in Shelby County is taking people back in time while bringing modern convenience.
A trolley is set to begin rolling in Columbiana Tuesday. The city bought the red trolley from Charlotte, North Carolina, at auction.
It’s part of a public transportation plan, but the route isn’t 100 percent settled.
Although donations are accepted, riders will not have to pay for the ride.
As it stands, the trolley route includes the Columbiana Clinic, various apartment complexes, grocery stores and businesses along Main Street.
Until the city gets a regular route in place, those who need a ride can wave down the trolley as it rolls down the street.
