Georgia teen charged with theft after bank error

GEORGIA (WIAT) — A Georgia teen is charged with theft of taking after a bank error was made in his favor.

A bank teller accidentally deposited $31,000 into Steven Fields’ bank account.

Police say Fields took the money and went on a shopping spree, buying a lot of food, clothing and a BMW.

By the time the bank had realized the error two weeks later, Fields had already spent $26,000.

The bank pressed charged after Fields failed to return the money.

He initially claimed the money was from inheritance.
