Flying can be fun, but finding a good deal can be taxing. And if you think booking far in advance is the secret to the best price, think again.

Ross Kenneth Urken, Personal Finance Editor for The Street says booking a flight 6 weeks to 3 months before your trip is best, but any further out then that could actually cost you more.

Flying on Tuesdays is generally cheaper. However, he says the idea that you can save money by buying your ticket on a particular day is a myth.

And so is talking your way into an upgrade, however, it may work on the rarest of occasions.

Travel experts say the real secret to flying cheaply is flexibility.
