BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Vulcan celebrated a major anniversary Thursday.
It was 10 years ago Thursday that the newly refurbished god of forge made it back on his podium overlooking the city.
A party was held in his honor Thursday evening.
The Vulcan Park and Museum used the bash as a way to say thank you to all the people who helped get the Vulcan redone and back up in his rightful spot.
“We are honoring those that helped this be a possibility — to have a Vulcan again,” Cristina Almanza said. “And still be atop of Red Mountain and for all of us to watch him at night.”
Thursday’s celebration isn’t the only one the Vulcan celebrates in 2014. He’ll celebrate his 110th birthday in June.
The Vulcan was originally built at Birmingham’s entry into the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair.
