Gadsden First Friday is a big hit

GADSDEN, Al — (WIAT) With rain out of the picture Friday night, hundreds flocked to downtown Gadsden for some First Friday fun.

The organizers of First Friday have a motto – shop, sip, eat and play. So CBS42 explored it all.

“You’ve got many, many unique different stores,” says Kay Moore of Downtown Gadsden. “You’re not going to go here and find stuff you’re going to find in a mall.”

One of the coolest specialty stores in the area is Kings Olive Oil. It has over 51 different types of olive oil and balsamic vinegar. In fact it’s the only store of its kind you’ll find within an hours drive.

When it comes to sipping, we couldn’t help but notice there were two competing lemonade stands within a few feet of each other.

“The large lemonade stand in the middle has been with me for about five years,” says Moore. “And he makes a great regular lemonade. Now the strawberry lemonade – from Frios is made with fresh strawberries.”

For playing, it’s hard to miss the laughter of children with freshly painted faces and the roar of classic car engines brought joy to the big kids.

For eating, our CBS42 crew checked out Blackstone Pub famous for pizza and quesadillas.

Gadsden hosts a First Friday celebration in downtown between 1st and 7th Streets every month from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
