Alabama head coach Nick Saban speaks after 1st practice of 2013

TUSCALOOSA, Ala.The Alabama football team held its first scrimmage of the spring on Saturday afternoon inside Bryant-Denny Stadium.

The scrimmage lasted roughly 125 plays and was just over two hours under sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-60s. The Crimson Tide will have Sunday off before returning to practice on Monday.

“I was really pleased with the effort and intensity the players had,” Alabama head coach Nick Saban said. “I really like the attitude of this team in terms of how they go about what they try to do, how they work, the effort that they give and the mental and physical toughness that we play with. A lot of guys are trying to be conscientious to do a good job and I think that it shows in the way we play and the way we compete. The togetherness on the team is to me a lot better.”

Kenyan Drake rushed for 60 yards with a touchdown, while Tyren Jones had 49 yards and Derrick Henry and Altee Tenpenny had 40 each. T.J. Yeldon carried four times for 20 yards.
