BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Police were called to the 2900 block of 27th Street North on Saturday to Ebony Beauty Supply, where they found 63-year-old Chaya Anders dead of a gunshot wound.
Anders, who owned the store and resided in Pinson, made a large impact in North Birmingham.
“I come to get my stockings for church, every week, and my lipstick. She orders all my stuff. I don’t go to any other beauty supply store but her,” said family friend Mauritha Lewis. “She didn’t deserve that. Nobody deserves stuff like that.”
Leverne Little brought flowers to pay her respects to Anders Sunday morning. Little attends Bryant Fountain of Love Baptist Church, which is located just down the block from Ebony Beauty Supply. She says she would see Anders about twice a week.
“I’ve done business with her a couple of times,” Little said.
Members of Fountain of Love Baptist Church CBS42 spoke with say Anders was always in the neighborhood and was very friendly. One thing that did concern them, though, was being two doors down from an act of violence.
