Floodwaters impact parts of Shelby County

SHELBY COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — Right off Highway 119, the King’s Mobile Home Park filled up with floodwater, forcing people and pets to seek higher ground.

“I just woke up and came outside and everything, my car’s under water and everything in the yard’s gone,” said Jennifer Gilbert.

“It was pretty scary, because we didn’t know what to expect,” said Adolfo Cruz.

After sunrise, the rain subsided, but the water was still quite high.

As people returned to survey the damage, they began to soak in the reality of what could be saved and what couldn’t.

“I’ve been here for about 13, 14 years, and I’ve never seen this,” said Steve Pustaver. “I’ve never seen rain come down as hard as it did last night, for that long of a period of time.”
