RIVERSIDE, Ala. (WIAT) — A child was killed by a dog in Riverside Sunday afternoon, according to Mayor Rusty Jessup.
Jessup says the incident happened Sunday afternoon on Honeysuckle Lane. Five-year-old John Triton Harvard and another 9-year-old were in their yard playing when a dog attacked the youngest child, Jessup says.
The 9-year-old tried to stop the attack and subdue the dog but could not. The father of the children fired at the dog with a pistol and the dog ran off.
Neighbors called 911, Jessup says, but the Harvard was too injured to wait on paramedics to arrive. He was taken to St. Vincent’s St. Clair emergency room where he was pronounced dead.
