BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Spring is here and that means fresh produce is available at local farmer’s markets.
Vegetables fresh from the farm and just picked are healthiest. Dietitians say if you can’t get to a farmer’s market, you may want to look at your frozen food or canned section. Most are packed right after picking, which means they’re still full of nutrients.
If you do look to get canned vegetables, it’s best to look for cans without salt.
Dietitians say you should cook vegetables in as little water as possible, so microwaving, steaming and stir frying are your best cooking methods.
