Signs of Monday’s flooding still visible in parts of Shelby County

SHELBY COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — Signs of Monday’s flooding are still visible along Cahaba Valley Road in north Shelby County, and also in Gerry Macedo’s front yard.

He was hard at work Tuesday tearing out carpet, drying out school books and cleaning.

The King’s Mobile Home Park flooded as a result of heavy rains that swept across Alabama Monday.

The Macedo family lost furniture and part of their porch, and everything from clothes to mattresses were soaked.

“We are not prepared for that kind of thing, you know. But we are fine. We are working together,” Macedo said. “Actually, my wife and my brother are working right now inside, but I mean we don’t lose a whole lot actually. That keeps us more together. Like a family.”

The family wants to thank the community for pitching in to help – from the Oak Mountain Elementary School teacher who came by to check on the children, to their landlord and the deputies and firefighters who helped get out safely.
