RIVERSIDE, Ala. (WIAT) — The dog that killed a 5-year-old Riverside boy has been euthanized, according to Sheriff Bill Murray.
Murray says it’s unclear at this time if the decision was made by a judge or the owner of the dog.
The dog attacked and killed John Triton Harvard Sunday afternoon on Honeysuckle Lane in Riverside.
Mayor Rusty Jessup told CBS42 that Harvard and another 9-year-old were in the yard playing when the dog attacked Harvard.
Harvard’s father fired shots at the dog with a pistol to stop the attack.
Neighbors called 911, Jessup says, but Harvard was too injured to wait for paramedics to arrive. He was driven in a personal car to St. Vincent’s St. Clair emergency room where he was pronounced dead.
Murray says the investigation is ongoing.
