Flooding with heavy rains the norm in part of Hale County

HALE COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — Residents say Riverbend Road say it’s covered by nine feet of water.

Normally, those circumstances would be a headache for the 30 or more families who live down the road.

However, the locals are flood professionals.

They say they’ve had to deal with the constant flooding off and on every year for 18 years.

Ricky Seale has grown accustomed to it.

He says they prepare, and leave their cars at the boat ramp.

“My house is 12 feet off the ground, so I don’t have to worry about it getting in my house,” Seale said. “There’s other people that are going to have a lot more problems than I am.”

CBS42 took a ride down the river, weaving in and out of yards, waterlogged gazebos and basketball goals.

As high as the waters are currently, locals say it isn’t the worst they’ve seen.
