Working out earlier in life could help you be a smarter and sharper senior

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A recent study found that staying fit when you are young, and keeping active throughout your life, can keep your mind sharp and make you a smarter senior.  But that doesn’t mean you have to hit the gym 24/7.

There are plenty of activities you can do anywhere to stay fit and healthy. Physical fitness experts say walking, riding a bike, even a weekly Zumba class can keep you feeling your best.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the average person should try to get in at least 150 minutes of exercise a week, basically 2 ½ hours a week. That includes anything from a full workout regimen to a simple brisk walk around the park.
