Last minute filers should expect long delays in trying to reach IRS

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — If you haven’t done so already, time to file your taxes is quickly running out. And if you have a question about your taxes, you may want to call a local accountant or tax attorney, because trying to get the IRS by phone may be next to impossible.

The IRS estimates about 18-million people will be calling them, looking for help on their last minute filings. That averages out to about 40% of all tax callers this season.

Unfortunately, budget cuts have forced the IRS to leave many of it’s tax assistance centers under-staffed.
