Group offering tax filing assistance for free in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The time has come for those who procrastinate to procrastinate no longer – the tax filing deadline is Tuesday.

Over the weekend, the Alabama Asset Building Coalition offered free tax help for anyone who earns less than $52,000 a year.

About a dozen people showed up to take advantage of the services.

The IRS certified tax preparers were happy to help those who needed it.

“We feel like it is a service that is needed and one that can take some of the burden off those who have family responsibilities and maybe not all the resources that would otherwise be needed,” said Don Giardina, who serves as the Market President for Bankcorp South.

Anyone who still hasn’t filed their taxes and need a little help can still get assistance from the experts.

They’ll be available on Tuesday as well.

They are located at Five Points South West Library in Birmingham. They’ll be there from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Their services are offered for free.
