BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Most will agree when you look good, you feel good; and when you feel good, you have a more positive outlook on life. Hard times come to everyone. Dealing with them often involves help from others.
That’s the goal of a partnership at the First Light Shelter and Joelle Salon. Twenty ladies spent Monday morning being pampered. They’re headed to a job fair on Tuesday, so they need to look their best.
First Light Shelter serves women and children who find themselves in emergency situations. At First Light, they find a caring support system, and a chance at a better life.
“We’re going out trying to get some jobs so we can move on, get better on with our life,” says Tressa Hill, “I couldn’t afford a haircut or style right now, I couldn’t afford it, but thank God for this nice salon and the nice people that work here they’re so friendly and it’s just wonderful.”
Last year, First Light helped 967 women get back on their feet and out of dangerous situations.
