From studying abroad to spying on US

study abroad concerns

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The FBI is warning college students who study abroad that they could become an accidental US spy. The FBI warns overseas intelligence officers may try to build a relationship with an American college student in the form of an internship or small job.

It could eventually turn them asking for information for money or a reward.

One college international program says they already have mechanisms in place to ensure students safety overseas. Three years ago a former college student from Michigan was studying abroad in China but ended up going to federal prison for giving intelligence officers there classified US information for money.
