TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) — Tornadoes ravaged Tuscaloosa on April 27, 2011. But what many of us forget is that another tornado hit the city just 12 days prior to that storm.
On April 15, 2011, an EF-3 tornado touched down near Shelton State Community College.
More than 20 neighborhoods were affected.
One of the hardest hit areas was the Skyland Park Community.
The storm snapped and uprooted many trees and damaged homes and businesses.
The damage was so severe that Mayor Walt Maddox declared the city a disaster.
Fortunately, no one was hurt.
