NEW ORLEANS, La. (WIAT) — A New Orleans hospital is apologizing to parents on Friday. Hospital officials now admit they should have informed families about a flesh-eating fungus outbreak.
Children’s Hospital confirms that five patients died from the fungus between 2008 and 2009. After discovering two severely ill patients with the fungus, the hospital says it immediately contacted state health officials and the CDC.
The hospital says the source of the outbreak was most likely contaminated stored bed linens.
