HOOVER, Ala. (WIAT) — It is now up to the U.S. Justice Department to decide whether families in Hoover will pay for school bus service this fall. Thursday night, all five school board members unanimously approved the proposal but the U.S. Justice Department still has to approve that decision.
The service would cost about 40 dollars per student per month. That price would drop for each additional child.
Those costs only apply to non-poverty riders. There are discounts for riders who are on the reduced or free lunch program.
We asked our viewers to weigh in on the debate by leaving comments on our CBS 42 Facebook page. The majority of commenters don’t like the bus fee proposal.
