BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) - One family in Birmingham is homeless after their home on 27th Street SW burned down on Sunday evening. No one was home at the time of the fire. The mother who lives there with her 4 children tells CBS 42 she found out about the fire from a text message from one of her daughter’s friends.
This isn’t the 1st time this family has been through a fire. The mother tells CBS 42 her home on Jefferson Avenue caught fire and burned down about 3 years ago. She doesn’t know where she and her family will stay for the time being, but she does have family in the area.
The Birmingham Fire Department says it started around 8:30pm, and the roof caved in. Firefighters expect to be at the home for most of the night digging out what’s left of the home. Investigators are still trying to figure out how the fire started.
