Man shot and killed by police after pointing airsoft gun at officers

ANNISTON, Ala. (WIAT) — A suspect who brandished an airsoft gun and pointed it at police was shot and killed by officers with the Anniston Police Department Tuesday morning, according to Captain Allen George.

Police responded to a call reporting a man walking in the area of Net Street and Twine Street in the Blue Mountain community around 9:30 a.m. The caller, who identified himself as Frank, said the man was carrying a gun.

Officers responded and order the man to drop the weapon numerous times. He refused and pointed the gun at the officers.

George says both officers fired at the suspect. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

George says further investigation revealed the firearm the man was carrying was an airsoft gun designed to look like a 1911 style firearm.

The case is still under investigation.
