WASHINGTON D.C. (WIAT) — The Supreme Court heard oral arguments Tuesday on a case that could change the way you watch television.
The case is on a start-up called Aereo against television broadcasters like CBS.
The major broadcasters are suing Aereo for copyright infringement.
Aereo launched in 2012.
It streams and records over-the-air broadcast television for local subscribers.
While the cost for Aereo’s monthly subscription starts at $8, the broadcasters are fighting for billions of dollars that could be lost in retransmission fees for their content.
If the court rules in Aereo’s favor, broadcasters could potentially move their most popular shows from free broadcast channels to cable.
The Supreme Court’s decision is expected this summer.
