TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) — What started as an agreement to give a coworker a ride home ended with a kidnapping and robbery.
Now, Tuscaloosa police say the coworker who needed the ride is in on the whole thing.
Investigators say Courtney Campbell set a plan in motion Thursday night when he asked for a ride home.
When they got there, a masked man forced them to drive him to an ATM and get cash.
“Initial parts of the investigation, some things didn’t add up,” said Lt. Kip Hart with Tuscaloosa Metro Homicide. “There were other things that were discovered during interviews that led us to develop the probable cause to charge him.”
Investigators say Campbell filed a police report.
He’s charged with robbery and kidnapping.
Police are still trying to locate the masked man.
