EVANSVILLE, Ill. (WIAT) – Football players at Northwestern University are set to decide if they want to form their own union.

In March, the National Labor Relations Board ruled in their favor, saying scholarship athletes can be considered employees and form a union.

The ruling only applies to private schools like Northwestern.

On Friday, the athletes will vote on if they want to unionize. If they do, they will become part of the Collegiate Athletes Players Association.
