Patterns, bold colors the trend for spring, fall

BIRMINGHAM, Al (WIAT) — Winter is finally over and tonight spring and fall are making an appearance at Birmingham Fashion Week. Today CBS 42 went behind the catwalk to talk with designers about what we can expect to find in stores.

Fashion week, this is the moment designer and Alabama alum Hunter Bell works all year for.

“Some other pieces in a woman’s wardrobe, especially mine, that I cant live without, is a great top,” gushes the designer. “It’s a going out top, it’s a statement top.”

She’s spent the past ten years living in the big apple but is still a southern girl at heart and says her designs reflect that.

“Yeah bringing it up a notch,” says Bell. “Yeah just giving a woman options. From barbecuing at night, wear a jumpsuit, standing out in a crowd, taking a little bit more of a risk.”

She says this fall plan to see bold colors and lots of patterns and textures.

And if you think Birmingham Fashion Week is just for women you’re wrong, mens fashion is taking a prominent place in Friday nights show.

“Plaids are back in with lighter colors as well as more neutrals,” says Phillip Jacobson, owner of Baers Den. “And then we always like to bring in some spring pop of color.”

From shirts to vests to trim, those patterns and colors are to be found everywhere on men’s apparel. Plus Jacobson says accessories like pocket squares are big for guys this spring.

“It’s just a way to add a little detail with out being over the top,” claims the store owner.

And in the world of clothes, hair and makeup its easy to get a bit overdone, but in this show the designers seem to keep it all down home.

Now often times when you see fashions on the runway you think I could never wear that in a normal setting. Well the good news is everything seen on Friday nights catwalk is able to be worn straight off the hanger and available from local stores.
