CULLMAN, Ala. (WIAT) – Looking at Downtown Cullman today, you may not guess many of the places there were just about crumbled three years ago.
“The city itself, it kind of shut down,” said Pastor Kevin Wilburn.
First Baptist Church in Cullman was one of the many places in the tornado’s path. Their sanctuary was badly damaged.
“Really, the church came together and was unified and was built back rather quickly and that still remains today. You can still sense a spirit of unity as the city moves forward and even as the church moves forward as well,” said Wilburn.
Pastor Wilburn used what happened on this day three years ago to spread a message to his entire congregation.
“God is doing a new work and people can see what’s he’s doing, experience the power of hope as they move forward from a storm, a tragedy, that they can’t always predict when storms are going to come and they can’t predict in the weather or in their lives” said Wilburn.
