Low college enrollment rates could be due to the labor market

Students making the decision between college or work.

It’s a decision every student faces after graduating high school, take on additional school with college-or start working.

Now, more high school graduates are are choosing the paycheck over more years in school. The Bureau of Labor Statistics found that of the graduating class of 2013, 65.9% of graduates decided to go to college. This is the lowest college enrollment rate since 2006.

The drop could be because of the improving economy or the rising cost of college tuition. The drop was also concentrated among those deciding between attending a community college or jumping right in to work which is a sign that they’re having better luck in the labor market.
