BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) – Federal prosecutors say a man accused of selling heroin that led to the death of a University of Alabama student has been arrested.
Authorities say 34-year-old Patropius Foster was arrested in Atlanta and appeared in federal court in Birmingham Wednesday. Prosecutors say Foster is the last of 49 people to be arrested for their involvement in a heroin distribution ring.
Prosecutors say charges of distributing heroin that results in a death carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years. Authorities say two deaths linked to drugs Foster and a co-defendant are accused of selling happened at the same Tuscaloosa apartment complex within one month in 2013.
Authorities say 39 of 49 defendants have pleaded guilty in the case and 36 have been sentenced.
It’s unclear if Foster has an attorney.
