HUEYTOWN, Ala. (WIAT) — Getting children involved in sports has so many advantages. Not only do they become athletes, but they are taught skills that they can carry them through life. CBS42 and Hibbett Sports have teamed up to provide area teams with the funds to buy new gear. Our first One Team at a Time is Hueytown’s 5 and 6 year olds.
Marlins coach Clint Boaz said “At this age, the first age coming up from tee ball. This is the first year they really start using baseball equipment and really get into the sport of baseball.”
CBS42 and Hibbett Sports spent $1,000 on baseball equipment to help support the needs of this young baseball league.
“It’s so important for us to be involved in the local community here in Hueytown as well as donating gifts to them that is important to their success as a team,” said Hibbett Sports representative Stephanie Britt.
After we surprised the kids Coach Boaz said, “Oh wow, the kids were excited! This is an awesome opportunity. I would like to thank Hibbett Sports and CBS42 for donating all this equipment here for the five and six year olds and Rock Creek Ballpark. Hopefully it will help us get more kids in the community, bring them in here and get more active with community baseball.”
