JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — The search for a new Jefferson County superintendent is set to begin soon.
Late Tuesday afternoon, the board agreed that Steven Nowlin will no longer lead the school system.
Board members voted to move him to a new position.
He’ll be an administrative officer until June of 2015.
“I think that you know we’re very amicable with this,” said Jefferson County Board of Education President Jennifer Parsons. “He’s been a very good sport. We have as well, and like I said, we do not wish him any ill will. We are glad that’s he’s going to be working with us for the next 14 months in a different capacity.”
The school board hopes to name an interim superintendent as soon as possible.
